About Brain Freeze
“Brain Freeze” is a gripping near-future thriller that plunges readers into a world where neural implants, virtual reality, and corporate power collide—with catastrophic consequences. As society crumbles overnight, a cast of unforgettable characters—including a high-achieving teen gamer, a resilient elementary school teacher, and a field biologist caught between tech and nature—must navigate a landscape where every choice could be deadly. This first installment of the Regeneration Trilogy blends intense action, emotional depth, and a bold exploration of how innovation can both save and destroy us. “Brain Freeze” is a gripping near-future thriller that plunges readers into a world where neural implants, virtual reality, and corporate power collide—with catastrophic consequences. This quote by Robert H. Schuller has been an inspiration to me. I hope others find it as encouraging.
“I’d rather attempt to do
something great and fail than to
attempt to do nothing and succeed.”
Thank you, Mr. Schuller

I'm still working on MY PROBLEMS.

1/7/26 IWSG January 7 question – Is there anything in your writing plans for 2026 that you are going to do that you couldn't get done in 2025?
Boiling down the things I want to finish in 2026 that I was unable to finish in 2025;
Number one on this list is my workshop. Of all the projects that would allow me to increase my productivity would be to complete my workshop.
I began this journey to convert my 12’x16’, two story horse barn into a fortress of solitude in 2022 after my last horse passed away. Life has interrupted my project quite a few times, therefore I had hoped to complete this project this year, 2025. However, it appears one more season will be needed. Even though my fortress of solitude in not completely done I have already been able to go out and sit in front of my cozy crackling fireplace and complete more work. Without this dedicated location I would not have been able to complete book one.
Number 2 on the list; Now that book one is out there, thanks to my daughter. I must learn to how to manage social media and web sites. It’s a task made harder by the plain truth that I just don’t want to. I usually relish learning almost anything but social media is so far down on my interest list that is might as well be nonexistent.
Years ago, a friend of mine had retired and started auditing classes at the local college, just for the joy of learning. At that time anyone over the age of 65 could audit a class for free with the instructors’ permission. I had recently decided that this could be the answer to my learning dilemma, get into a web making class and learn what I needed to get this ominous job done.
Well, I went online and checked into my local community colleges for courses that I could audit that could help me learn to meet this goal, only to discover that the process has been made much more complicated in this state. Other states are much more user friendly.
I was looking forward to auditing courses even for a nominal cost. The idea to be able to learn for the sake of learning without the anxiety of homework or tests was exciting, just learn. OH well, I’m not done yet.
Number three on my list; I Continue to struggle to manage MY time, to work on MY writing.
I have the space to work now, yes it needs a few more things finished. But I can enjoy it the way it is and I can accomplish more in the time I get to spend out there.
I’m working on teaching others to respect my time and space now as well.
But mostly I continue to learn how to demand that other’s respect MY time but most importantly I’m learning to respect my own needs and rights to have time to create. I’m too quick to give my time away to others and place myself last. I need to stop doing that. Having said all of that, the first month of this year will be completely dedicated to getting my partner, friend, spouse through open heart surgery, again. So, if you’ve read this, we’ll take all the positive crossed fingers you can send our way.
On to the next journey. TLHumbert, the tenacious wall weed.

December 3 question - As a writer, what was one of the coolest/best gifts you ever received?
Sometimes things are meant to be. That I should reach this point when I’m able to sign back up to IWSG, just at this time and just at this question. I have the feeling that something else is at work here. Are you watching me grandma?
As a writer the very best gift I have ever received was the approval and encouragement of my daughter. She had watched me through the years work on my book, edit, revise, edit again. And then edit and revise again and again. She watched as I sent out query after query and first chapter samples only to receive the rejection letters, if the publisher was courteous enough to do that.
My girl continued to watch as one thing after another took precedence in my life and my book had to set on the back shelf while I made the choice to deal with more important priorities.
When life settled down, I had finally decided that life was too short and the only way I’d get my book published was to take the self-publishing route. Then this summer my daughter decided to become an indie publisher herself. She set up her own web page then set up one for me. She laid out a plan to get the book on line then later get it published. She created and designed the book cover and came up with illustrations and the web page and the book was out in public. I was thrilled!
Then one day without any warning I received a box at my door with the proofs of my book. The amazement of that moment, to see my book in hard copy and to hold it in my hands came pretty close to the feeling I had the day my daughters were born or the day I bought my first horse. I had reached the point where I thought my book would just sit in a folder on my computer, never to be shared with anyone else.
Today several people now have my book and I hope they enjoy the story. But nothing could ever bring me the joy that my daughter brought to me when she believed in me enough to get my book published for me.
Thank you Jessica, my publisher/daughter.
